Our actions against hunger and food waste

Adding value

Over the years, Partage has developed several projects to recycle unsold goods, from soup to cookies to green coffee roasting.

Partage actively fights against food waste by collecting unsold and surplus products from Geneva food companies: fresh products, dry products with a long shelf life, fruits and vegetables, hygiene products.

Partage is a committed actor participating in the implementation of the 3 political axes related to sustainable consumption and production of the Agenda 2030 in Switzerland.

  • Increasing consumption is putting growing pressure on the environment : Switzerland is already exceeding the planet’s capacity in several areas;
  • Informing consumers and raising their awareness so that they make sustainable purchasing decisions and adopt consumption behaviour that conserves resources;
  • Switzerland is the country that produces the most urban waste in Europe : communicate on avoidance measures during production, transport, distribution and consumption.

Valorisation workshops

Partage fights against food waste by rationalizing its surplus management and by valorizing perishable foodstuffs.

Making cookies and cake from unsold bread

This workshop was developed in 2020 in collaboration with the Hospice général, to make cookies.

Partage recovers and cuts up the dry bread, then makes the breadcrumbs. Other products, either donated or purchased
– such as spices – complete the recipe.

The cookies are made by a Hospice General trainee chef, accompanied by trainees and volunteers. As with the cookies, the breadcrumbs from the dry bread are also used to make sweet and savoury cakes.

Manufacturing of roasted coffee

Companies involved in the coffee trade donate green coffee to Partage.

Since 2023, the purchase and installation of a new roaster in the Espace de valorisation’s coffee workshop has enabled the team to roast its own green coffee. It is then redistributed as beans or ground coffee.

Making sticks, soups and compotes

The workshop enables our chef to develop a range of recipes using unsold produce, such as vegetable soup, tomato sauce, sticks, compote, jam and fruit salad.

Fruit dehydration

Initiated in 2019, the project came to fruition in May 2022.

Thanks to its new equipment, Partage cleans, cuts and then dehydrates local fruit categorised as ‘out of size’ (currently apples), which is packaged in individual 100-gram sachets.

Since this year, and with the aim of intensifying and raising awareness of the fight against waste, the foundation has been offering companies a dehydration service for their surplus apples, enabling them to keep them for longer.

All these valorized products are distributed – on order – to the beneficiary associations and social services.

Exchange platform between food banks

Partage participates in a food exchange platform between the Swiss food banks Table Suisse, Table du Rhône, Table Couvre-Toi and some food wholesalers.

The goal is to pool resources to reduce food waste.

By choosing to support the Fondation Partage, which is recognized as being in the public interest, you are making a concrete contribution to the daily support of people in difficult economic situations in the canton of Geneva.
