Samedi du partage extends its reach to butchers and delicatessens in the canton

Samedi du partage launches a solidarity campaign supported by artists and local butchers

The “pigs for sharing” operation got under way on Monday. You might come across one in your local butcher’s shop… But what is the aim of this action ? Explanations !

You might come across one in your local shop… the Sharing Pig is on its way !

Supported by the commitment of local illustrators and partner local shops, this operation aims to provide meat products to people in precarious situations. Traditionally held in supermarkets, Sharing Saturday aims to collect dry food and hygiene products. Meat, an expensive commodity, is not one of the goods harvested during these two days. What’s more, meat products are hardly ever part of the unsold goods collected by the food bank (butchers, by their very nature, value the whole product).

With this in mind, Samedi du partage has launched the “Cochon du partage” operation, in partnership with local butchers and through the Société Patronale des Bouchers-Charcutiers de Genève. To mark the occasion, 17 local illustrators each personalised a piggy bank, with the aim of collecting donations to buy meat products at the same butcher’s shop, which would then be redistributed to disadvantaged individuals and families in the canton.
