Solidarity in French-speaking Switzerland collects 249 tonnes of essential goods for Samedi du partage

Geneva, Lausanne, Fribourg, 18 June 2025 – Once again, the three cantons joined forces on 13 and 14 June for Samedi du partage. A total of 249 tonnes of foodstuffs and hygiene products were collected, testifying to a civic commitment that is still alive and well in French-speaking Switzerland. Solidarity remains firmly rooted in the heart of the region.

A response to a very real need

Faced with growing poverty and persistent economic tensions, many families are struggling to cover their basic needs. In this context, supplying food banks and aid associations is a major challenge. That’s why the Samedi du partage harvest is so important.

An ever-stronger human chain

A total of 249 tonnes of essential foodstuffs were collected thanks to a major collective effort. In detail, the canton of Fribourg collected 19 tonnes. The canton of Vaud collected 79 tonnes, 19% more than in June 2024. In Geneva, 151 tonnes were collected, down by more than 10% year-on-year. Against a backdrop of rising prices and falling purchasing power, the Samedi du partage team is satisfied with the harvest and warmly thanks donors, while bearing in mind the growing scale of the needs facing many families. Now more than ever, it’s essential to get involved.

But beyond the numbers, it was the faces of 1990 volunteers, smiles on their lips, blue aprons tied and pink shopping bags in hand, that embodied this solidarity. There were 1,100 volunteers in Geneva, 720 in Vaud and 170 in Fribourg: their presence was the driving force behind this operation. Without their dedication, none of this would have been possible. We would also like to express our gratitude to our partner chains and their teams, who gave our volunteers a warm welcome and provided exemplary logistics throughout the collection.

From this week, the food collected will be sent to the food banks, where it will be sorted, stored and finally redistributed to people in precarious situations through our partner associations and social services.

The next appointment

June 13 and 14 were a milestone in the fight against food insecurity, and the next event will take place on November 28 and 29, 2025, with the renewed aim of making solidarity a shared reflex.
