Whether through the recovery and redistribution of unsold goods, the use of delivery tricycles or the development of recycling projects, Partage is committed to a sustainable environment.
With the emergence of new challenges – a proven drop in the number of unsold items recovered, growth in the number of beneficiaries, an increase in the number of purchases per week – Partage is reinventing itself and developing new activities to diversify the sources of food supplies and promote local and seasonal products.
Among these, Partage recently set up an apricot production and distribution project, with the acquisition, thanks to donations, of almost 200 15-year-old trees in apricot orchards in the Valais!
Part of the proceeds from the harvest will be redistributed to the beneficiary institutions in Geneva. Any surplus apricots will be dehydrated as part of one of our new recovery projects, to extend their shelf life. Thanks to this process, we will be able to distribute dried Swiss apricots – which are rare on the market – for longer throughout the year to people in food insecurity situations.
To guarantee the quality of the harvest, an on-site farmer tends the trees throughout the year. Depending on weather conditions, production should be in the region of 10 tonnes a year!
This project is in line with Partage’s desire to move towards short circuits, as part of a shared commitment to sustainability.
