We’ve known since Adam that an apple can quickly take on biblical proportions. We’ve known since the Trojan War that it can be a major bone of contention. And since Steve Jobs, an expensive object of desire. But it doesn’t get any simpler or more innocent than an apple. Even if it’s the pear that gets cut in half, the apple, tasty and cheap, sums up the idea of exchange, generosity and fairness. So, let’s share?
La julienne – Maison des arts et de la culture de la Commune de Plan-les-Ouates is home to a library area, an unusual place where people can share and exchange ideas. Books deposited by users with the aim of sharing them with others are available to everyone. They can be borrowed freely, returned or kept as desired. This is truly a ‘free exchange’ policy.
The library is also a place where young and old alike can freely indulge in their favourite pastime, reading, and take part in a range of activities involving the arts of storytelling, the spoken word and illustration. Plan-les-Ouates also works closely with the Fondation Partage, an organisation based in the area that actively combats poverty and food waste.
